KRUE began with a simple idea — that the things we gather around should be as beautiful as the people we gather with.Behind it are four women, and the Founders Line carries their names.

Founder's Note

I'm Karla, and I'm a quiet person, so I'll keep this part short.

I started KRUE because of what mahjong does: it brings everyone to the table - friends, family, the people you love, and the ones you've only just met.

I wanted to honor that table the way the women in my family always did. A beautiful one is a kind of welcome.

My mother loved beautiful things. So do I. When I couldn't find pieces that finished my own mahjong sets the way I wanted - the cherry on top, the last detail that makes a table feel set with care - I started making them myself.

And every time I do, I'm thinking about four women. The Founder's Line is named for them.

Grandmother

Cora Rosella

Cora lost her husband early, but you'd never have known it from her. The loss never dulled her shine. She worked hard, kept a beautiful smile, and had a laugh that warmed the whole room.

And she cooked — Norwegian feasts that filled the table and pulled the family in close.

Grandmother

Lurlin Marion

Lurlin was the strong one. She raised a family on a farm and led it with a quiet kind of strength — the kind that doesn't announce itself but holds everything together.

There was always a treat for anyone who walked in the door, and always an extra setting laid for a guest.

My Mother

Inez Marie

My mom. My heart. Gone, and remembered every single day.

She raised a large family with grace and love to spare, and she always - always - had food on the table and baked treats ready to send out the door with you.

She had the perfect thing to say at the perfect moment, and a whole vocabulary of her own: goodness gracious, oh my stars and garters.

My Daughter

Emma Rose

My beautiful daughter - one of the lights of my life. A fighter, who found her strength and her love and the will to stand up for what she believes in.

The line that begins with Cora doesn't end with my mother. It carries forward, to Emma, and onward.

Why Mahjong?

Because the table is where the women in our family taught us everything we know about gathering. The game is the excuse. The Krue is the point.
